THE GIRLS OF ILLIGHADAD – SAHEL BLUES-NIGER

May 13th, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Fatou Seidi Ghali and her cousins, the only group of women Tuareg guitarists, deliver poetic minimalist music, where ancestral trance rhythms support intoxicating blues notes live from the Sub-Saharan desert.

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Driven by guitar and vocals with calm and measured playing by one of two female Tuareg guitarists, the band captures the essence of desert music.

First revealed at the 2017 Printemps de Bourges Festival, Fatou Seidi Ghali and her cousins Alamnou Akrouni and Mariama Salah Aswan come from the region of Illighadad, in the heart of Niger. Mixing sub-Saharan music with the “tendé” tradition (collective performance of drummers and singers), they record their pieces in a big open studio: the desert.
