A bold and prolific creator of the second half of the 20th century, Olivier Messiaen led an exceptional career as a pianist, organist, pedagogue, theorist and composer.
Messiaen, a pioneer of new sounds, opened himself up to other sources of inspiration, which he integrated into his own musical language and passionately passed on to generations of conservatory students.
In 2015, the ensemble of his archives were compiled at the BnF’s Music Department. The availability of the archives will give visitors the chance to get as close as possible the creator’s workshop.
This exhibition will reveal the very particular working environments of those who identify as ornithologists and rhythmists.
